Peder's Parents

Peder's parents married 26 June 1825 in Innvik, church rec. 3:
Bachelor Ingebrikt Bentsen, Berge, born on the farm Biørkeloe, 21 years old of father Bent Ingebriktsen, Berge and Maiden Martha Pedersdatter, born on the farm Verloe, 28 years old of father Peder Haraldsen, Røesdalen.

Biørkeloe is also written Birkelo, now Byrkjelo.

Ingebrikt and Martha had the following children:

2 Bendt Ingebriktsen Berge, b. 22 June, christened 28 June 1829

4 Synneve Ingebriktsdatter Berge, b. 8 June, christened 11 June 1835

5 Peder Ingebriktsen Berge, b. 19 May, christened 29 May 1842

Peder's sister Synneve married in Innvik 6 July 1864: Bachelor and farmer's son Lars Olsen, born on Seime in Gloppen, 33 2/3 year, son of Ole Nilsen, and Maiden Synneve Ingebrigtsdatter Berge, 28 11/12 year, daughter of Ingebrigt Bentsen.

Lars and Synneve had a son Ole, born 24 Feb. 1861 and a daughter by the name Eli, born 22 Nov. 1865.

The name Ingebrikt is spelled in different ways, like Ingebrigt (most used), Ingebrekt,
Ingebrecht and so on.

Arne found the christening of Peder's father in Gloppen church rec.: 27 Nov. 1803: Ingebrecht.
Parents: Bent Ingebrechtsen Biørkeloe and Synneve Thorsdatter.

It was probably the minister at that time, or the one who recorded the name, that decided how to spell a it. Ordinary people had no idea, usually. I [Arne] think I would have used the spelling Ingebrigt.

Ingebrigt's wife Marthe was born and baptised in Innvik 25 Jan. 1798 by the name Martha.
Parents: Peder Haraldsen, Verloe and wife Anna Arnesdatter.

The parents of Marthe Pedersdatter (Peder's mother) are in the census 1801 Indvig (Innvik):

I found Peder Haraldsen's baptism in Innvik 24 June 1753: Peder.
Parents: Harald Davidsen, farmer Verloe and wife Marte Jonsdatter.

Harald Davidsen was born abt. 1714 on Sand, died 1789. He was a rather prosperous man.
Harald's wife Marte was b. abt. 1721 and died 1801.

Note that Peder's mother Marthe, then, was born in about 1798! And true to Norwegian naming patterns, Peder's first daughter (of five) was named after his mother. (And his last daughter [with Mary] was named after his deceased first wife, Anna.)
